Ehtisab Court issues bailable warrant for Nawaz, directs him to appear on Nov 3





ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court on Thursday has issued bailable arrest warrant for ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Azizia Steel Mills and offshore companies references against him.
During the hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, Nawaz Sharif's representative submitted three pleas pertaining to exemption from the court for 7 days and to stop trial court proceedings. 
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor said that Nawaz Sharif is deliberately not appearing in the court, therefore, his arrest warrant should be issued.
While rejecting all pleas, the judge said that former PM is being given last chance to appear in the court on November 3 and if he fails to attend the hearing then non-bailable arrest warrant will be issued against him. 
It is to be mentioned here that Nawaz Sharif was indicted in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references regarding Park Lane Apartments, Al Azizia Steel Mills and offshore companies while Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt (Retd) Safdar were indicted in reference regarding Park Lane apartments alone.
Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in July for not declaring a source of income that he disputes receiving. Pakistan's top court also ordered a wide-ranging investigation by the National Accountability Bureau and trial of Sharif family members.
In 1993 he was sacked from his first term as premier for corruption, while in 1999 he was sentenced to life in prison after his second term in office ended with a military putsch.
Following the coup he was allowed to go into exile in Saudi Arabia, returning in 2007 before becoming prime minister for a third time in 2013.
Meanwhile, ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (Retd) Safdar have appeared before accountability court in National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) references Thursday.
During the hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, Nawaz Sharif submitted plea seeking exemption from the court for 7 days while medical report of his wife Kulsoom Nawaz, who is undergoing treatment form lymphoma, was also submitted. NAB prosecutor said that Nawaz Sharif is deliberately not appearing in the court, therefore, his arrest warrant should be issued.
The court issued bailable arrest warrant for ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Azizia Steel Mills and offshore companies references against him, directing him to appear in the court on November 3 and if he fails to attend the hearing then non-bailable arrest warrant will be issued against him.
The statements of witnesses were not recorded in today's hearing due to absence of Nawaz Sharif. Subsequently, the court has adjourned the proceedings till November 3.
Talking to media outside the court, Maryam Nawaz said that the court would found nothing against Nawaz Sharif and that questions will be raised against injustice. She said that the absconders have not been arrested despite warrants.
Those talking about democracy are being called as 'treasurers' she added.
Meanwhile, Captain (Retd) Safdar said that he is real captain and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan is fake captain. 
It is to be mentioned here that Nawaz Sharif was indicted in NAB references regarding Park Lane Apartments, Al Azizia Steel Mills and offshore companies, while Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt (Retd) Safdar were indicted in reference regarding Park Lane apartments alone.
Earlier, accountability court indicted ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law Capt (Retd) Safdar in the NAB Avenfield reference against them.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz on Thursday said that the evidences were being cooked up rather than being provided. Talking to media persons outside the accountability court, she deplored the graft proceedings against the family members, complaining that the verdict of the case announced prior to the trial.
Applauding PML-N endeavours for upholding democracy, Maryam said that the country is passing through a phase in which touting democracy being deemed as a criminal offence.
"If [former] PM Nawaz Sharif was disqualified merely for possessing a foreign work-permit then why the law is restricted to him," she questioned.
Responding to a question over VIP accountability, she said that the family members are appearing before the court despite her mother is undergoing a treatment.
"VIP accountability occurs at a time when the vehicle turns around halfway after accused complains a back pain on way to the court," she asserted while indirectly referring to former president Pervez Musharraf.
Moreover, she said that the Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had approached British authorities in UK but later returned to Pakistan after they were failed in garnering evidence.
Meanwhile, State Minister and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Talal Chaudhry on Thursday said that the bitterness in our behaviors is due to injustice. Talking to media outside the accountability court, Talal Chaudhry said that we will become polite when injustice against us will be eradicated. - NNI
